Professional statement

I am an expatriate clinical psychologist and psychotherapist fluent in English, acknowledged in both Belgium and Romania. My credentials and experience empower me to employ an integrative and comprehensive approach, drawing upon various psychotherapeutic schools, tailored to suit the individual needs of my clients.

About me

As an individual, I advocate for cultivating joy in life, nurturing inner equilibrium, and forming meaningful bonds with others. The realm of human experience has always fascinated me, and I have never stopped exploring its depths. The unexpected, but profoundly meaningful ways in which various situations teach us how to make sense of the intricacies of our lives and experiences never ceases to amaze. Gaining insight into the intricate workings of the human psyche and discovering the route to coherence and inner tranquility lies in exploring a diverse array of human experiences, ranging from the sublime to the challenging, from moments of beauty to instances of pain.

Throughout my professional journey, I’ve been driven by two core passions: the desire to have a positive impact on individuals’ lives and the commitment to contribute to some of the pivotal challenges confronting society today, notably the pursuit of harmony and equilibrium—both within ourselves and in the world around us.

While my origins are rooted in Romania, my path has led me to reside and work across multiple countries on three continents. This diverse exposure has bestowed upon me insights into various cultures, organizational environments and working styles. My professional trajectory has also encompassed other fields, including human resources and research focusing on the environmental footprint of products. These varied experiences and dedicated studies have substantially broadened my outlook on life and the world. Through it all, I’ve learned to engage with others with an open heart, attuned to diverse life realities, and capable of comprehending situations from myriad perspectives.

My nearly two-decade-long sojourn as an expatriate holds significant value to me as I assist others in reflecting upon and solidifying their own sense of identity within a multicultural milieu.

Despite being proficient and self-assured in various professional domains, psychotherapy stands as the true vocation of my heart. It summons forth the finest aspects of my being, enabling me to extend hope, knowledge, trust, compassion, and empathy to those in need.

My therapeutic approach

Psychotherapy is a dynamic journey that demands time, trust, and genuine authenticity. The therapist serves as the seasoned guide who navigates the terrain of our life history, gently marking zones of peril and identifying spots where bridges must be erected between estranged and antagonistic inner realms. It’s the therapeutic relationship of trust and respect that facilitates this process of exploration. This connection provides the sheltered haven necessary for confronting specific internal struggles on the path to self-restoration and inner liberation. Unpacking negative experiences and emotions, grasping the interplay between them and our patterns of thought, … aids in deciphering the messages they carry, unlocking reservoirs of inner energy and its creative force, and catalyzing the transformation and renewal we seek.

Throughout this guiding process, I embrace complementary theoretical approaches that provide me with a broad insight into psychological processes: from the existential outlook to cognitive-behavioral mechanisms, the adaptive information processing model of EMDR, and the techniques of mindfulness.

As a psychologist and psychotherapist, I draw upon my background as a researcher, staying attuned to the latest advancements in psychology. Additionally, I emphasize the deeply human connection, encompassing both its personal and transpersonal dimensions, seeking out the distinct facet of each individual.

Depending on the unique requirements of each individual, the approach might encompass a brief, solution-focused therapy to recentre and recalibrate focus, enabling the person to continue their life narrative autonomously. Conversely, a more extended therapy might be pursued to facilitate the rebuilding of the self, involving the examination of past experiences and the restructuring of cognitive processes.

You can count on all my expertise, experience, and warmth in the therapeutic endeavor.

What Do People Say

Review after 20 therapy sessions 2-3 times a month for a period of 7 months, followed by 3 months of monthly sessions to stabilize and end the therapy: relationship problems, self-esteem and self-confidence, fear, childhood trauma, physical health, defining and respecting one’s own needs, inner balance.

Mihaela is an objective, deep, attentive and empathetic therapist who has the ability to see the difficulties you face despite the problems presented. Personally, therapy with Mihaela has transformed my life, reshaped my being, bringing light into the darkness of old traumas unintentionally carried over time, but actually affecting my health but also other aspects of life, healed my traumatic emotions that brought tension in my body and replaced with positive energy that brought me relaxation and healing on an emotional and physical level. In addition, Mihaela taught me to accept people as they are, without expectations, and to be able to identify the light in the people around me. Therapy with her gave me back my self-confidence, my own abilities and values, but at the same time my awareness of my own responsibilities. With gentleness she brought space and peace to my body and mind. Not only did I learn to see Joy in the Present but I also received concrete tools that support me further in Life. It is with deep gratitude that I recommend Mihaela Thuring as a competent counsellor who helped me become the architect of my own life.
